Absolutely brilliant video on the Lyra8. Its like owning a zoo in synth form. Its deffo another planet. Thanks again
Enjoy! It’s a simple idea and I’m glad it worked for you!
Great video and thank you Luke.
Any time! You’re moving through my whole catalog!
I tune my Lyra8 a different way but in all honesty I don't think it takes kindly to being tuned in the way we know. Its a beast with its own brain so you have to go along with it. To tune the first two pads on the left ti a specific note I have all the knobs at the top zeroed except the volume. The Hold knob zero. The four switches in a row for LFO in the up position ( lfo off) Place finger on pads no 1 and use the tune knobs to get the frequency you want. But the Lyra8 does not want to be tuned. It is the CAT of synths. It was not designed to play the ( music) we are acustomed to. It was designed to take us into space and blow our minds. I will never part with my Lyra8. We always have a party together. Its like having a Lion as a pet. If you are sensible you do what the Lion wants!
Should have been called the LION ATE
As long as you’re having fun! :)
You are extremely talented and clever. Thank you for demonstrating what can be done and how to piece a tune together. My jaw dropped when I saw what that square tablet thing can do. Phew that is some piece of kit. Meanwhile I will see what I can do on my humble Behringer 2600s.
Time and practice! :) see you around!
Thank you. I really appreciate your video here. I few weeks ago I did not know what Berlin School was. Now I do I just love it. I was a serious classical musician so I have missed a lot and kicking myself. I have two ARP 2600s and I am learning all about patching. It is so exciting. I love this genre of music so please can I ask you to do more Berlin school stuff. You will be much appreciated by many. Now its time for me to get that El Capistan tape echo!!!!! Thanks again.
Hi Peter! Thanks and I’m glad you’re having fun! I have an entire playlist of Berlin school videos if you’d like to go through them. Here you go. ua-cam.com/play/PL9JoRsVz2sY-kyFxwRb-uSIzkYyxRF3NU.html&si=Ql4GIMTZ8v7qonPs
🎉Congratulations ❤ Well deserved
So mesmerising,,,,,,
Hey thanks! :)
❤ I learned a metric shit ton from this video on my drive home, very excited to get into the Synth cave. Thank you Synth Seeker 😊
lol thanks…I’m glad you have things to try out!
so much effort really !
Thanks. It’s very fun to do!
Wow! Looks like I slept through a fun nerd-fest with many of the names I see on Andy's stream! Never knew how many of us were programmers of old... I started in 1970 on an HP-2000, played on many Trash-80's and Apples (plus several other computer-wannabees), moved into the IBM realm in College, before becoming a teenage hacker for a defense contractor on DEC machines (then a healthcare utilization review firm and Verizon Wireless). As many have heard in the Coffee House forums, I helped Greg H. bug test an issue with Turtle Beach's MIDI implementation on Cakewalk v1.0 back in 1987! LOL. I also ran the second-most popular game servers on the West Coast back in the 1990's (had T1 lines even! Quake I, Half-Life and Counter Strike) - all Linux. No wonder I love this stuff! 😊 Can't believe I missed this and it wasn't even starting at 2am like Andy's! 🤣 Is that grid thing Ableton only or something that can be used with anything that has MIDI? Also, how long did it take you to learn how to play music with it?
lol thanks! Yes we’re all nerds. ;) The grid a controller from Ableton called the push and while it’s tightly integrated with Live it can be used either other software with some effort. There are other grids (such as the Novation Launchpad pro Mk3) that are cheaper but also play nicer with all software. As for learning to play, it’s easier than learning the piano, has different strengths and weaknesses and of course takes some practice…but they are also very fun and quick to sound good on. ;)
Was wondering why there's such a lack of Nord synth content compared to the rest of YT's synth content. Been looking for comparisons of Nord's capabilities versus traditional analog / digital synths. Need way more of this for the Nord users.
I think it's because a) Nords are a bit expensive and b) They don't release new synths very often. The Wave 2 came out in 2020 (4 years ago), the Lead A1 was back in 2014 (10 years ago!) I would love to see a new Lead 5 or A2 with numerous internal modulation capabilities while keeping the 4-parts architecture.
My #1 Discord!
Awww. thanks!
Lol - the camera mic was doubling and picking up me hammering on the push. I figured it out and fixed it around 8:00.
Hey Luke and fellow synth nerds. I've been a bit AWOL lately, but a huge thanks to you and this amazing Discord group. The creativity, support, and the pure synth geekery is amazing. Keep the awesome prog/berlin school/synthwave/drone vibes going! 🎹🎛
Don’t sweat it Dan. When we see you, we see you. :)
It's an interesting instrument, with very usable sounds. I can definitely see the value of having a straightforward dedicated box like this. It takes a few extra steps to accomplish the same results in jack of all trades synths. eg. Decay time controlled by velocity takes up two mod slots out of the 6 available on my Virus Ti2 ( i.e. having the the decay modulate itself in one slot (positive values shorten decay time) , then using velocity to control the depth of that modulation in another slot) .. This recursive modulation technique is very useful to get dynamic drum sounds..
A Drum 4 and Lead 5 are high on my list of desirable new products from Nord. :)
Camera audio had gotten me a few times as well 😂
Yup. That’s a first for me. Today I learned something.
System building is definitely something I enjoy.
With work these days, haven’t recorded or jammed often these days. I need to work on more Live templates that would allow me to just sit down and jam right away without thinking to get the juices going. Happy mixolydian day! Lifting me up thanks Luke.
If I lift, it's because you are flight-enabled already. Carry on sir! :)
You've fostered a great environment for all of us to share our passion with a bunch of like minded synthnerds. I'm grateful for this discord community. Thank you Luke for being awesome!
You make it so much better man, thanks for sharing!
In the next year most of the income for raffles will come from selling "DARK PLOC!" t-shirts. And underwear to raise the chance of chics coming in too ;-) Lovely update, Luke, I was one of the first to join your Discord community and if I have learned one thing it is "BUY MOAR SYNTHS". My wife will forever hate you for it, but still loves us all too.
I'll send her a peace offering of some kind. What do you suggest?
@@synthseeker Say hi to Tessa on one of your streams, if you notify me beforehand I will make sure she is angry and waiting lol.
@@rayderrich This will happen next Sunday - count on it.
Thanks for the great video Luke!! Sounds sooo nice!! 🙂
Short and sweet. :)
Thank you luke for making this all posable and thank you to all of the discord community for being Amazing!!! 🙂💜
100% you. (as he sits listening to your ninjas stream...) What awesome chill out music for post-streaming Sunday afternoon.
Thanks for this update and for keeping this community alive and well!
What else am I going to do? Stop buying synths? NEVAH!!!!! LOL
@@synthseeker Ha ha...I have contracted the gear acquisition syndrome (partially) from the SynthSeeker community, ha ha...but what I like is how there's also a good balance of making actual music and sounds beyond just all the talk and photos. I appreciate both and have learned a ton from you and everyone else.

Welcome!
that discord page!!! 🤣
Yeah that was a good thumbnail wasn't it. :)

Does that exist? Maybe we can make one?
Deliberate nonsense 😂

Better than the random kind. :P
Sounds up my alley! I think I can spare a buck...
See you on the server! :)
Explaining rises understanding
I'm trying. :) Thanks for watching.
Nice one, Luke - very succinct and useful - Nice little piece, too usefil 👍
Thanks Ian! :)
btw the discord invite link says expired
I’ll look into it before today’s stream. Thanks for the heads up!
dig it!
Thanks!
Was fun to watch, enjoyed it
Thank you, sir. :)
And... just heard you say you do a "live stream Sunday at 2" - what time-zone are you in? I might tune in as long as there's no bare feet shots... LOL! 🤣
Im GMT-4. US eastern. :)
If you go to the channel and look at the “live“ tab you’ll see all the previous Sundays. And there should be a video for the event that gives you an appropriate time zone read out. That said you can always watch them after the fact as well since I published the recording. Much like Andy.
So THIS is what you do when you're not moderating Andy's livestream! Niiice... Do you have a list of what software/hardware you use Luke? I lost my studio back in 2009, but I'm seeing that there's a lot that can be done "in the box" now-a-days so I might go that path until I'm wealthy enough for hardware again. 🙂
I don’t have a laundry list of gear I can just point you to, but it’s sort of discoverable in the videos…AND…I’ll talk about it in today’s stream which you can watch live or post-recording. ;)
Pity you lost your studio. :( but there’s nothing wrong with working completely in the box. I did it just after the pandemic that way, but gear is an addiction and it creeps back in always.

Thanks as always Luke. So informative and inspiring.
Just a short one. :)
👍i LoVe ! 💙⚪❤
Thank you! ☺️
Famous last words: "...and I got a little bass...". Entertaining lesson, Luke.
It’s so tiny! Like this… (holds thumbs near index finger.)
Thanks Luke. Very inspiring.
Thanks for saying so. :)
Lovely low bass 🙂
Thanks Adri. ;)
strongly entertaining. thank you for the tips.
I should probably pull the old videos down and just redo them more concisely, they’re kind of scattered.
❤ Ducka-Ducka ❤
Ha! UA-cam thinks that you’re speaking something other than English. It’s offering to translate.
I was speaking Seekerish
thank you, Luke, much enjoyed 🙂
Thanks Andy!
Damn, if your synth are taking too much space, I can help you (yeah, I'm super generous). You just have to send me some of these Nord keyboards (specially the Lead A1) to my place (no need to thank me).
Space is tight yes but it feels cozy to me. :)
@@synthseeker btw, what are the best ways to get (even an old) Lead / Nord keyboard when I'm broke? (second hand, I can find one for ~400€ (is it the cheapest I can get it for?))
@MeblIkea tough call…steady vigilance???
Didn’t a new VST emulation of the Nord come out in the last month called the NERD? audiokitpro.com/nerdsynth/
@@synthseeker btw, I got myself a cool fancy Casio PT-80, I just spent my last 48 hours jamming on it :D I'm considering doing a VST out of it.
Awesome man! On a side note do you know how I edit a pre existing patch and save it to a init slot ? When I try I end up overwriting the patch ? I hope this makes sense
SAVE TO A NEW LOCATION: Press GLIDE + RELEASE switches; let go. You’ll see GLIDE and RELEASE LEDs flashing on and off. You can change presets in the normal way (hold GLIDE button, press OSCILLATOR 1 or 2 buttons to change preset); when you find a preset you want to save over, hold GLIDE + Press RELEASE to finish saving. Press RELEASE by itself to cancel without saving. (Best I can do.)
Just googling the Behringer Proton and there are a few videos saying it was ready for production in early June 2023
I know right? Where the heck is it?
